The NCHS is the ultimate source for vital statistics and health statistics. Here you can find statistics on specific diseases; for example, the site has over 2100 documents on heart disease.


The NIDDK is part of the National Institutes of Health, with a mission of providing funding and doing research on diabetes and digestive and kidney diseases. Nearly one third of its website is on diabetes and its related diseases. The NIDDK website includes information on clinical trials, reports on work at the NDDK laboratories, and research opportunities.

National Library of Medicine - Resources:

The mission of the Council is to provide science-based information and also traditional knowledge of herbal medicine. American Botanical Council also sees its purpose as promoting the responsible use of herbal medicine. This website includes HerbalGram, the journal of the American Botanical Council. This is the only national organization that certifies competency in the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM). The District of Columbia and the 43 states which require NCCAOM certification, or a passing score on the NCCAOM certification examinations, account for 98% of the states which regulate acupuncture.

According to its website, "The mission of the AAAOM is to support our members and the AOM community through education, occupational resources, media support, and legislative advocacy in our commitment to facilitate access to the highest quality of healthcare in the United States." The official publication of the AAAOM is The American Acupuncturist.


The ACI is the only organization in North America to offer certification in auriculotherapy, auricular acupuncture, and auricular medicine – "the treatment of various health conditions through the utilization of ear reflex points."

This is a not-for-profit organization. The site provides information on training to become an Acu Detox Specialist, and how to integrate acupuncture protocol into an addictions or behavioral health program.


The mission of SAR is to promote scientifically sound inquiries into the clinical efficacy, physiological mechanisms, patterns of use, and theoretical foundations of acupuncture, herbal therapy and other modalities of traditional East Asian medicine.
